I am experiencing the same issue with my AL319. Purchased 2/11/16 from Amazon (prime). There is no serial #. On the back it just says patents pending. It seems to function correctly when connected to the car but Maxi-Link II (v1.03) does not recognize it.Just found that it sees the device when in Update Mode. Perhaps that's in the documentation that I skimmed.
Might this be a knock off as well?
